Subsequent Testing The ENHAP Testing program is avalable to manufactures on an on-going basis, and we will publish these results when a new helmet is tested. I February 2004, we completed testing on a helmet called the Aussie21, manufactured by Equine Sciences in Australia. The results were as follows:
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Although helmet use has been shown to reduce the risk of head injury significantly, there are limits to a helmets protective capability. No helmet can protect the wearer against all foreseeable accidents and injury may occur even with those helmets achieving the highest ratings in the ENHAP programme. The ENHAP test protocols were developed to represent a range of accident types that may occur during equestrian activities. As such these are stylised tests that do not mirror every conceivable accident. In particular they may not have been tested for accidents involving sharp penetration or rotation to the head or neck. They have been conducted on helmets purchased during January and February 2003 and the results are therefore subject to subsequent model variations by the manufacturers. The British Equestrian Federation (BEF) and its members are supportive of all efforts taken to improve riding hat safety. However reflecting its impartiality from manufacturers, is not able to endorse specific hats based on the star ratings given by the ENHAP programme. BEF, MDIRF and TRL exclude all legal liability in respect of any reliance on or use by any person of these test results to the fullest extent permitted by law. |
