Sunday, the 22nd June 2008, Mark Davies Injured Riders Fund Pro Celebrity Polo Day - Gates Open at 10.30AM, Tournament to begin at 11AM

Sunday, the 22nd June 2008 is the date for the Mark Davies Injured Riders Fund Pro Celebrity Polo Day at the exciting and prestigious new venue of Cowdray Polo Club, Midhurst, West Sussex.

In the past the day has attracted a host of celebrities including Zara Phillips Patron of the Charity, Ringo Star, Jodie Kidd, Pippa Funnel, Stephanie Powers, Richard Dunwoody, Mike Rutherford and many many more.

With a long and illustrious history, Cowdray Park is recognized worldwide as the Home of British Polo. Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty within Viscount Cowdray’s 16,500 acre estate in West Sussex, the game of polo has been played at Cowdray for close on a century – the first competitive tournaments being recorded in 1910.

The Polo consists of four teams, containing two celebrity riders and two professional Polo players and each team will play a chukka of Polo. The winners of each match will then play in the Final for the MDIRF Trophy.

Following this will be a High Goal Exhibition match featuring two of the best teams in the Country who will be competing in the prestigious Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup in July.

During the Day everyone will be able to try their dogs agility skills in the Pedigree Chum Agility Arena, which provides endless entertainment for all

There will be excellent catering facilities but please do bring a picnic to enjoy pitch side if you wish. A funfair for the children, a wonderful shopping village offering something for everybody as well as the renown Silent Auction Marquee where there will be over 50 lots to bid for, a raffle and a tombola.

The MDIRF also invites you to help with the day. Volunteers are needed for preparation, stewarding, selling raffle tickets and clearing up the next day.

We would also welcome more prizes so if you can donate something special for the auctions or a smaller prize for the tom bola and raffle please let us know

Pro Celebrity Polo Charity Day at Hutwood Park Polo Club Ewhurst 3rd June 2007

After days of consistent rain the sun came out on the 3rd June for the MDIRF Polo Day, held in the beautiful grounds of Jayne and Kenney Jones Hurtwood Park Polo Club. Among the many who turned up to support the Day in the Marquee were actress Gretta Scacchi, Actor Alex Siddig and Musician Toyah Wilcox.

Arriving in Style!

The day commenced with dressage to music display by Andrew Gould. Andrew is one of the countries up and coming riders and is part of the world-class potential squad. He has won 3 national Titles and lives with his wife Polly and son Oliver near Hickstead where he runs a training and livery Yard. The commentary was by Dane Rawlins a former middleweight boxer and a trustee of the MDIRF, best known as the founder and organizer of dressage at Hickstead. Dane is a member of the International Trainers Club and the British International Trainers Foundation, a recipient of the BHS Trainers Award and holder of the BEF Medal of Honour.

Following on from the beautiful dressage, was a fast and furious display of Polo by the Surrey Union Pony Club kindly organized by Kay McGregor with commentary on how the game of Polo is played.

    The winning team was Group Clean

    Teams from Wokingham, Bisley, Crawley & South Horsham, and South Down East Pony Club Branches contested the Pony Club Mounted Games organised by Jane Vile with Commentary by Mike Ryan. The winners were the South Down East congratulations to them and to all the PC riders who entertained everybody.

    Over 100 lots were on show in the Silent Auction Marquee which was hugely popular, all items had been most generously donated and they ranged from a visit to the filming of Top Gear to lessons, yard visits, designer handbags, in fact there was something for everyone. The raffle was for a Harrods hamper, Jeroboam of Champagne Harvey Nicolls and Boden vouchers and the lucky programme winner won a magnum of Champagne.

    At the prize giving for the Polo and Mounted Games, there was also an award for Samantha Thake won was the most successful fundraiser on the Waterburg Challenge in 2007. If you are interested in the 2008 Challenge to Patagonia please see the section on this on the web site.
