JOIN US IN AFRICA AND HELP RAISE FUNDS FOR THE MIDRF In this special MDIRF trip over a seven-day period we will ride through some of the most beautiful countryside in the Waterberg, experience superb game viewing, at a stunning private reserve which literally teems with game. Not only do they have over 30 Rhino on the property, but also a wide variety of plains game including Buffalo and Sable. The itinerary will be as follows: Day 1: Arrive at JIA and transfer to Triple B Ranch for lunch at the Horizon Homestead. That afternoon we will explore part of this picturesque ranch and have a chance to ride to make sure that the horse that has been picked for you from the riding notes is the ideal choice for the upcoming adventure. Day 2: Leave Horizon early in the morning, stopping en route for lunch most of the day will be spent riding through game farms and will give you your first chance to view some of the Waterberg species. You will arrive at Camp in the late afternoon when you will have the chance to unwind and enjoy the views before dinner. Camp will be set up before the guests arrive; 2 man tents, stretcher beds, sleeping bags, a bush shower and camping toilet will be supplied. Day 3 Departing camp early the morning ride takes you deep into one of the Waterbergs most beautiful valleys stopping at the bottom for a swim and a long lunch break, that evening you ride out of the valley and carry on to an area known as “Geelhout Koppie”, the highest spot in the Waterberg and once the site of an old Boer fort. The views are incredible and the area is steeped in history. Day 4: The ride will take us along the top of the mountain and through a pass until we reach the other side of the "seven sisters", a magnificent range of mountain heads bordering a huge valley basin. We will camp that night at the bottom of the pass in an area full of rhino and hippo, and always the possibility of leopard. Day 5: The morning ride will bring us into “Dinaka Lodge”, our sanctuary for the next 3 nights. The lodge itself is beautifully situated and well equipped with 4 ensuite twin rooms all looking out over the river and onto the plains. The reserve runs along the base of the mountain range and is fantastic riding country. The roads are flat and sandy and the game is plentiful. Day 6 and 7: We will remain within Dinaka and cover as much of this splendid game reserve, as is possible on horseback. Day 8: After one last morning ride in the reserve, we will load the horses and truck them home. Guests will then have the option of transferring to Johannesburg for your flight home or staying at the Horizon lodge for a few nights, to sample the many riding options we have on offer, such as polocrosse, cattle mustering, cross-country jumping, hippo viewing or simply riding out. A vehicle will be used to transport equipment and food. Should they be required extra horses can be trucked in at any stage. Riders wishing to book on this special trip have to be fit and competent at walk, trot, canter and gallop.
