ORGANISE AN EVENT

fundraising_tipsWe are always looking for individuals and groups to run fund raising events for us all over the country.

Whether you want to organise a big or small event, this is a very good way of supporting us. It will require a lot of thought and planning and we can be available to help you, and offer advice along the way.

To start you off, below are a few things to consider when planning event and a few fundraising ideas for things to do from home.

  • A date for your event. It is always worth checking that there are no other big events on that day in your local area as this may affect the people you want to invite.
  • A venue. Be prepared to book well in advance if you are planning something in a local hall or sport centre.
  • A Budget. You should have a rough idea of the amount you hope to raise and set your budget accordingly.
  • Advertising. Approach local newspapers to help you publicise your event and put up posters in local pubs, post offices and notice boards. If you need help with press releases then do contact us.
  • Sponsors. Approach local businesses for sponsorship or to donate prizes for a raffle or auction. Ask a local printing business to produce flyers or posters at discounted prices in exchange for their details or logo on the flyer.
  • Gift Aid. If you are being sponsored for an event, ask your donors to Gift Aid* their donation. This enables us to claim back the tax on their donation, 28p for every £1 donated. (*Gift Aid donations must come from a UK taxpayer.  Click here for our helpsheet on GiftAid

Ideas for Fundraising at Home

Get together with friends and family to organise an event in your spare time. Here are some ideas:

  • Challenge. Sign up for a life changing challenge, horse trekking across Brazil, cycling to Paris or walking the Great Wall in China.  There are a number of companies who organise these for Charity.   Go to www.classictours.co.uk or www.acrossthedivide.com for ideas
  • Dinner Party. Invite friends and family round for a dinner party and charge them for tickets. You could also ask everyone to bring an unwanted gift from home and hold a fun raffle after dinner to raise some more cash, that way everyone goes home with a gift!
  • Race night. Hold a race night in your local pub or hall. Contact us for help or ideas
  • Quiz night. Host your own “Who Wants to Be a Millionnaire”? Quiz at home or at your local pub. Charge an entrance fee for participants and put up a prize for the winner. You could ask the pub to donate a prize?
  • Sponsored Event. Swim, slim, headshave – ask your colleagues and friends to raise sponsorship money for you in a fun way.
  • Karaoke Evening. Ask a local pub to host one for you and charge people for entrance or to take part.
  • Dinner dance. Have a good band and good food and charge a good price. Organise a raffle and/or an auction.
  • Bungee Jump or Skydive. Sponsor a friend or colleague to take a jump of a lifetime, or better still, do it yourself!  Contact us to arrange skydiving.
